✅ Following the distinguished global Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025, for the first time in its history, the University of Žilina has become the best university in Slovakia. This year, THE WUR university ranking encompassed more than 2,000 universities from 115 countries and regions. UNIZA received the strongest evaluation in the research environment and teaching parameters.
🎓 The assessment utilises the state-of-the-art WUR 3.0 methodology, globally recognised as the most comprehensive evaluation of universities’ performance and outputs. It considers 18 carefully calibrated indicators in five key areas (with different evaluation weights): teaching (29.5%), research environment (29%), research quality (30%), industry (4%) and international outlook (7.5%).
📈 Globally, UNIZA retained its previous 1001–1200 position. The ranking also included 5 additional Slovak universities – Comenius University in Bratislava and Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice shared the second place (1,201–1,500 position), and Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra and Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava shared the third place (1,500+ position).
💡 “This year we came 1st in THE WUR 2025 ranking. For us, it is a great success as well as a commitment. This independent validation of UNIZA's quality is very encouraging and motivates us on our path towards excellence. We perceive this as a challenge, which drives us to keep up with our results and maintain the culture of quality we’ve been building at UNIZA for all these long years,” said Ján Čelko, the rector of UNIZA.
