Registration as a Job Seeker

Only citizens of the Slovak Republic, citizens of an EU member state and their family members, and foreigners with long-term residence status may be registered as job seekers.

This means that a foreigner with temporary residence status, or permanent residence status valid for 5 years, cannot be registered as a job seeker.
The Job Centre will not register a foreigner with long-term residence status as a job seeker if, before submitting the application for registration:
1. they have not been covered by unemployment insurance for at least two years during the past three years, or
2. were employed under a fixed-term contract and, within the last four years, had not been insured against unemployment through a fixed-term employment contract or voluntarily insured against unemployment for at least two years.
An application for registration as a job seeker is filed with the Job Centre corresponding to the applicant’s address of residence. If the application is submitted within 10 calendar days of the termination of employment, the Job Centre will register the foreigner as a job seeker as of the day following the termination of employment. The application may also be submitted electronically via email or by recorded delivery within 10 days of the date of termination of employment.
